Hi, I recently had a small problem with temporary loss of power on my 2001 1.9TDI zetec which apparently cured itself - it's fine again now, but whenever I turn the ignition on prior to startup I get a warning light up on the dashboard display informing me that a service is required in 2000 miles. It has done 44,000 and is not due until 50,000. Does anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?

thanks, DP.

try resetting the sevice light ( instructions are in the handbook)

Probably not properly reset at the last service.

Thanks for your replies. The advice given in the service book didn't work for me, but it was worth the try. I'll get on to the people who did the last service and ask them to try.

Thanks again, DP

Bizarely enough, having posted my response above, when I got in my Gal to drive home, the "Service in 2000 miles" message came up. So I have a feeling that it may be time-realted too, because I ended up having to reset it last July after the car was serviced. Maybe it assumes 1000 miles per month average, and automatically starts to remind you after 10 months, if you haven't travelled 10,000 miles in the meantime (off top of my head, recon I have only gone about 5,000 miles since last service).

...and it reset using the trusted method (push milo reset before turning ignition key on, and hold for a few seconds).

Do some vehicles not have some fancy oil testing sensor in the sump?

Yes, the latest VW PD TDI engines are set up for this and use 506.01 oil. Ford haven't been offered or taken up this option (not sure if VW gave them a choice) hence even the Galaxy 130PS and 150PS diesels are on fixed mileage (or annual) servicing.

Thanks to Ivor for the info regards resetting the dashboard display. I tried this after reading the handbook and nothing changed, but it doesn't tell you that you must do it BEFORE turning on the ignition. Result - everything is A-OK again, (till the next time).

thanks again, DP.
